Josef Sudek

Czech photographer Josef Sudek had to be included in my domestic research list of artists. His black and white photographs of daily objects showing perfect lightning and sharp shadows and edges are very thoughtful images, the composition does indeed look like it has been played around with to make it look natural but also a little bit fake. Sudek doesn’t specialise in still life photography, he is mostly known for his photographs of Prague. I firsts saw it a couple of years ago and since that time I was always able to relate it to my work somehow, his images are not exactly that simple, very thoughtful. There is not actually much I am able to say about his work I just love it. The lightning is probably the main plus, it makes great shadows and adds very strong contracts to the whole work. Once before I had a task to make a perfect image of and egg using any lighting I wanted without using any other props in relation to Sudek’s work and I would lie to say that it was the easiest task I ever had. I really do hope to come back on his work again at some point in one of my future projects.
