The Urban and The Country task was probably my favourite one, on the two previous tasks I had to focus more on myself and my own surroundings and think how to relate my ideas to my personal life. In the third task I had to go out of my environment and focus on something that I am not familiar with or cannot relate it to my personal life. There was a great opportunity for me when I went for the weekend to Belgium with my family and decided to shoot my photographs of the urban out there. The surroundings that I have never seen before and was absolutely not familiar with them. Belgium was a beautiful place to take photographs, I decided to make it as urban as I could and tried to focus only on buildings and the inside of the city and tried not to include much of the natural forms. John Davies was definitely the artist that has pushed my work forward, when I looked at his simple city photographs shot in large format all I wanted to do was follow his idea and make very simple but at the same time well composed images. Although I was in love with Todd Hido’s work to start off with I did not want to do anything to do with the country in this task as i did do it on my first task, I just wanted something different this time. When I shot my images they were exactly what I want them to look but while looking at them and thinking it was not enough. It was still not what I wanted to achieve but instead of shooting a whole new set of photographs I this time decided to just edit them. Since I started photographing a few years ago I always knew what to do to make the photograph more interesting and make sure all the details stand out so that’s what I did. My magic idea turned out to be the simple black and white adjustment in Photoshop and now I am looking at them and I achieved exactly what I wanted. Looking at them closely I am able to see many details, the images don’t anymore look like they are boring and shot by a normal tourist. I am happy with what I got in the end and for this last task my decision was to not make a second photoshoot for a change.
